Millard Consulting: More than civil engineers

Car dealerships

Trendy, cool, fun loving and British (1). All attributes associated with the new Mini, underlain by the implicit exacting quality standards expected by its parent, BMW.

The premium standards expected of the vehicle are reflected in the retail / service premises that Millard Consulting has helped to provide.

We have worked with Cooper, Lind, Lancaster and Grassicks, to deliver new dealerships for BMW, Mercedes, Mini and Renault, in Chelmsford, Ipswich, Norwich and Perth. We have also helped to provide BMW dealerships in Tunbridge Wells, Crawley.

Cooper Norwich

Lind Automotive Group

Introduction

Millard Consulting, on behalf of the Lind Automotive Group, has designed the infrastructure, drainage and structures for three car showrooms at a site located at Costessey, Norfolk.

The new Mini site, which is approximately 30,000 square metres, has three steel-framed car showrooms and associated parking, servicing and delivery areas.

Scope

The site geology consisted of gracely sand which was very soft, slightly clayey, with areas of standing water.

Careful ground modelling optimised the site levels, to provide a net zero balance of cut and fill, minimising the need transport materials and reducing the potential for associated landfill charges.

Lancaster Mercedes Ipswich

The Havens, Ransomes Europark, Ipswich

Introduction

As part of the ongoing commission at Ransomes Europark, Millard Consulting, worked with WA Hills on a Design and Build basis to design the infrastructure, drainage and structures for a new Mercedes dealership.  The completed building houses a new and used car showroom, after sales and servicing and is a steel frame structure.

Scope

Adjacent to the A14 and to the east of Ipswich centre, the site initially had a significant level difference across the site. Working with WA Hills the optimum solution was found to minimise the disposal of material and to provide the best use of the topography. This involved detailed ground modelling of the site, thus reducing the need to import or export materials. Additional constraints included working within close proximity of a trunk sewer which ran across the site. All of this was completed in accordance with the exacting standards of a premium car marque.

Cooper Chelmsford

Colchester Road, Chelmsford

Introduction

Working for Inchcape Retail, Millard Consulting have designed the infrastructure, services and structures for the relocation of the Mini dealership, as well as carrying out a Stage I and II Site Investigation. This is part of the ongoing programme to separate the Mini / BMW brand across all dealerships.

Scope

The existing Mini dealership shares the existing BMW showroom at the Chelmsford site. The new building will provide the Mini dealership with its own self contained building adjacent to the existing BMW showroom. Due to the tight constraints, careful design is required to ensure that the construction is carried out safely within  programme.
