Croft Na Caber is a winner
UK Commercial Property Awards
Croft Na Caber, in Highland Perthshire, was recently named as a winner in the UK Commercial Property Awards for the best commercial redevelopment.
This major water sports centre includes a restaurant, marina, spa, bars, retail space, family areas and apartments.
Ken Pirie, MD for Scotland, said "I'm delighted that Millard Consulting has been active on such a prestigious leisure development in Perthshire.
Projects of this magnitude and standard are extremely rare and being located in the magnificent setting of Loch Tay, it is close to our hearts; as Perthshire is where Millard Scotland originated from, back in 1986.
Ken added "Promotion of such a facility in Perthshire will maintain the County’s status as being one of the UK’s premier tourist destinations. Millard Consulting's involvement has focussed on infrastructure delivery and sustainability with services provided on highway access and traffic impact; drainage and utility provisions; environmental management and efficiency.
We are proud to have been part of the initial delivery team taking the project from feasibility stage through to planning approval and being associated with the award winning practice of McKenzie Strickland Architects and Strathtay Developments who have brought reality to a lifelong vision for the area of Loch Tay."
Result for Rackheath
Millard Consulting, has welcomed the successful shortlisting of the Rackheath Ecotown after playing a central role in the scheme. Millard has been at the forefront of this new technological approach; advising the promoters on traffic and transportation for all aspects of the new development. This has included travel modes, travel planning based on carbon budgets, water cycle strategies, flood risk analysis, foul water drainage strategies, land contamination and remediation, utilities provision, waste disposal, lighting strategies, sustainable construction and BREEAM assessments.
Martin Doughty, MD for Millard Consulting, stated “We are delighted that Rackheath has passed scrutiny and is being supported by the Government. Millard has worked closely with the scheme promoters, to ensure that all aspects have been robustly examined".
"We are delighted that Rackheath has passed scrutiny and is being supported by the Government"
Philip Porter, Millard’s specialist transportation adviser, said “This scheme will demonstrate that people can enjoy a full lifestyle, without reliance on private car use. We hope that the new techniques and experiences gained from these projects can be employed on other new developments, to minimise the impact of climate change.”
Rackheath Eco Town, which was given the go ahead in Housing Minister John Healey’s statement to the House of Commons on Thursday, is one of only four locations in the UK to be given approval. The development of the Eco Towns programme will demonstrate that people can live a low carbon lifestyle, without affecting their enjoyment of life. The proposals for low carbon living will benefit all areas of the resident’s lifestyle.

"extend the lifespan of the buildings and significantly reduce energy consumption"
The first joint project, for Pera, involves providing structural and environmental engineering design advice to support the lead architect, to enable external refurbishment and alteration to existing administration and technical buildings at Pera Innovation Park, Melton Mowbray.
Pera is an international technology-based consulting and training group with experience of specialising in assisting companies to achieve product, process and operational innovation.
The project is to extend the lifespan of the buildings, whilst significantly reducing energy consumption. The project includes structural engineering design to provide cost effective solutions and recommendations to enable external refurbishment and alteration of the buildings. Millard is supporting the investigation of the environmental performance of the administration building, examining the current energy thermal performance of the structure and recommending pragmatic material selection for the external refurbishment and alterations, both externally and internally, to improve energy performance.
The brief also extends to investigating the viability of providing alternative means of energy to improve the overall environmental performance of the structure. The building improvements are part of a holistic approach by the Pera Group to develop the Innovation Park in response to the changing environmental and user demands of their facilities.
The building, completed in 1962, is a concrete framed structure constructed on piled foundations with a combined brick, pre-cast concrete and single pane glass façade. A two storey steel frame extension, to the north east of the building, was added in the early 1970’s. The technical building is a two storey flat roof concrete framed structure with brick façade. Our teams are working effectively together and our client is pleased with the rapid progress that is being made.
SEPA Success!
January 2009
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) contract with Millard Consulting has been renewed.
Millard Consulting has worked for SEPA, in collaboration with Bell Ingram, since 2001. The term agreement was renewed in January 2009, extending it to 2011, despite strong competition throughout an open tendering process. This continued, robust, relationship clearly demonstrates the level of satisfaction that SEPA has with the service provided by this team.
Millard Consulting’s role was recently expanded, with the award of civil engineering and structural design, as well as preparation of contract documentation for nine flood warning gauging stations on a number of rivers. Further gauging station work is anticipated. Projects have included refurbishment and extensions to 13 SEPA offices. As the environment agency for Scotland, SEPA has set itself stringent sustainability objectives. These have included rainwater harvesting systems and the development of renewable energy sources.
Many of the project s for SEPA have required very short timescales, to minimise disruption and meet budgetary / funding regimes.
