Project description
In 2011 Millard Consulting were appointed by Perth & Kinross Council to provide structural and civil engineering services for the new extension to Rattray Primary School in Blairgowrie. The project involved construction of a new two storey extension to the east of the existing school, use of which is shared between the school and the local community.
Construction of the new building is steel frame with concrete floors at ground and first-floor level and a steel deck roof. External walls are a mixture of facing brickwork and cladding.
The project was a continuation of the Partnering approach adopted at other school re-developments, involving the Client, Millard Design Team and Contractor. Ongoing liaison and close communication between all parties facilitated smooth progress of the design process, with all issues and potential risks being dealt with and managed as they arose.
Beginning with site investigation works to evaluate ground conditions, we progressed to detailed design of all major structural elements of the project. Civil engineering services included the design of external drainage and infrastructure including new access roadways and various external works.
